James Bond’s most famous car, the Aston Martin DB5, is going back into production — but only at two-thirds its original size.
Built by Little Car Co. in partnership with Aston Martin, the DB5 Junior is designed for collectors or kids. Kids whose parents can fork over more than the price of a full-size BMW 3 Series, anyway.
The hand-built car features a rear-wheel-drive electric powertrain with swappable lithium ion battery packs and regenerative braking. It has replicated Smiths instruments, a full leather interior, a mahogany-and-aluminum steering wheel, a double-wishbone front suspension, three driving modes and classic Aston Martin badging. Like the original DB5, production will be limited to 1,059 vehicles.
The DB5 Junior starts at about $46,700 (£35,000), or buyers can upgrade to the DB5 Vantage Junior, which starts at $60,000.
The Vantage has double the power, a second battery pack, a limited-slip differential and an extra driving mode.
The car was developed using a 3D scan of a 1963 DB5 and is designed to fit drivers up to 6 feet, 6 inches tall. A fully charged battery is expected to last for about 18 to 37 miles.
