Mubea, a maker of automotive chassis, body and powertrain parts, is paying hiring and referral bonuses of as much as $2,000. James Sheehan, the company’s North American CEO, has approved fees as high as $4,000 to hire temporary workers.
Other suppliers have waived drug tests for new hires and reworded job descriptions to emphasize the safe working environment, said Melissa Hassett, a vice president who works with manufacturers at staffing company ManpowerGroup.
“They’re terrified of the upcoming flu season because they’re not staffed today,” Hassett said.
